Total All Patient Type Admissions
There is a significant increase in the total all patient type admissions with 1860 admissions with the primary diagnosis of diabetes in 2005; and rising to 3041 in 2007.
Age Range
While each age group had significant increases from 2005 to 2007 patients between the ages of 45 and 64 exhibited a substantial rise in admissions to the hospital with the primary diagnosis of diabetes.
Gender
There was a considerable rise in the number of men (606) being admitted with the primary diagnosis of diabetes in 2005; and climbing to 1076 in 2007.The number of women (1,251) being admitted with the primary diagnosis of diabetes in 2005 rocketed to 1,965 in 2007.
Race
In 2005, the number of Caucasian patients admitted with the primary diagnosis of diabetes was 1,112. African-American patients 613, with Native-Americans, Asian-Americans was 135.
In 2007, the numbers inflated to 1,918 Caucasian patients, 900 African-American patients, and 223 Native-American and Asian-Americans.
Inpatient, Outpatient and Totals
This chart illustrates the alarming climb of inpatient and outpatient admissions to the hospital with the primary diagnosis of diabetes.
The number of outpatient admissions and all admissions in 2005 with the primary diagnosis of diabetes was 1,720 and 1,860 respectively.
In 2007, the number soared to epidemic proportions with 2,884 outpatient admissions and 3,041 total admissions.
